Insanity

Insanity defined — the padded room version.

book

Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary has it as the following:

  1. a: a deranged state of the mind usually occurring as a specific disorder (as schizophrenia) and usually excluding such states as mental retardation, psychoneurosis, and various character disorders b : a mental disorder
  2. : such unsoundness of mind or lack of understanding as prevents one from having the mental capacity required by law to enter into a particular relationship, status, or transaction or as removes one from criminal or civil responsibility
  3. a: extreme folly or unreasonableness b: something utterly foolish or unreasonable

Mad Hatter at Tea Party - Alice i nWonderlandIt could be argued that a mental condition that society regards as insanity, could in fact be a person’s reasonable response in dealing with the reality of the world in which we live.

Christians are in danger of being classed as insane if you believe the dictionary definition of insanity as: something utterly foolish or unreasonable.

1 Cor 2:14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Cor 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

NIV 8  ”See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.” – Colossians 2:8, for those of you who are Christian.

WE 8 Do not let anyone fool you by his wise words. They are not true. They are what men say. They are the teachings of this world and not what Christ says.

NLT8 Don’t let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world, and not from Christ.

Christianity holds that suffering increases one’s character and is necessary for spiritual
development. On the other hand, psychiatry teaches that suffering interferes with one’s life and the ability to live it fully.

Once people can be induced to experience a situation in a similar way, they can be expected to behave in similar ways. Induce people all to want the same thing, hate the same things, feel the same threat, then their behaviour is already captive – you have acquired your consumers or your cannon-fodder.

“THE SALVATION OF THE WORLD LIES WITH THE MALADJUSTED.”
– Martin Luther King

“Anyone who goes to a psychiatrist ought to have his head examined.”
– Samuel Goldwyn.

  • Tormented days can be made easier by thoughts of absurdity
  • Death thinks the world of you and wants nothing more than your company

Question by Lindsay W: insanity??
Okay so here it is, i might possibly be suffering from insanity..i’m 14 years old, my parents are away for a week and i’m with my 16 yr old brother who can drive. i’m afraid i might do harm to myself, and/or those around me, whats the best solution, if i CAN’T go to a specialized place. should I get my brother to drive me to the hospital? i have have incidents in the past where i have become dangerous or irrational, such as attempting to burn my house down, and walking miles at 3am barefoot through downtown Toronto. and right now for a reason which felt really important at the time, i’m sitting in a really small closet, i can no longer emember the reason… (also i’m not emo or anything, i just tend to lose all rational thinking)

You sound bipolar. I’m bipolar and rather like that. Your best best is to go see a therapist or such doctor who can provide you with mood stabilizers.
